Wolverhampton Learning Quarter
Wallace Whittle undertook full MEP technical design and building physics modelling for the Wolverhampton Learning Quarter, a state-of-the-art campus that provides access to A-levels and advanced courses in specialised fields.
This project includes the creation of a new main campus for the City of Wolverhampton College within a group of Victorian and early Edwardian buildings in the city center. In addition to the college campus, the project encompasses new facilities for Wolverhampton’s adult education service and the Central Library, featuring the restoration of the library’s facade and internal improvements. Contracts for the remaining work are still at the procurement stage.
The Wolverhampton Learning Quarter boasts several notable features, such as extensive performance lighting, sound systems and a dedicated internal recording studio network. Our MEP systems design included BB101:2018 compliant hybrid ventilation units within teaching spaces, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR), VRF air conditioning, and LED lighting throughout with intelligent controls.
The project also featured roof-mounted photovoltaic arrays, EV charging provisions, a full networked building energy management system (BEMS), fire and security systems, Category 6A structured cabling, and extensive performance lighting and sound systems. This cutting-edge campus not only integrates modern educational facilities with the historical charm of Victorian and Edwardian architecture but also sets a high standard for sustainability.
