Larkhall Leisure Centre
The new Larkhall Leisure Centre will deliver a modern and energy-efficient community facility, replacing the town’s existing leisure centre and offering a wide range of flexible spaces including a six-lane swimming pool, wellness suite, fitness studio, gym, and multi-purpose games hall.
Our team has been appointed to provide MEP and sustainability services, supporting the design and delivery of a highly efficient and low-carbon building guided by Passivhaus principles. Working closely with Hub South West, Holmes Miller Architects, Thomas and Adamson, and the wider design team, our specialists have undertaken detailed daylight and energy analysis to optimise the building’s performance.
The design adopts a fabric-first approach, utilising cross laminated timber (CLT) construction and high-performance building materials to minimise heat loss and enhance thermal efficiency. Through careful orientation, the centre maximises solar gain and uses thermal zoning, air source heat pumps, and natural ventilation strategies to reduce operational energy use and long-term carbon emissions.
Although not pursuing formal Passivhaus certification, the project draws heavily from its core principles, ensuring a resilient, low-energy building that will serve the Larkhall community.
