Job Title: Mechanical Discipline Lead
Directly reports to: Managing Director
No of Direct Reports: TBC, this is a strategic senior role
Location: UK, TBC

Position Summary:

To support the Managing Director and The Board Directors and to lead the technical quality, delivery and development of the business in the Mechanical discipline.

To lead by example and to manage multiple projects through strong technical, project management and team management capabilities, and to provide an excellent service to clients.

To effectively expand the client base and sector coverage, leading to increased sales and profitability, in addition to increased levels of repeat business.


Responsibilities and authority:

  • Lead the mechanical engineering discipline effectively, including technical excellence, technical quality and delivery.
  • Lead from the front, developing and communicating a clear vision for excellence in the mechanical discipline.
  • Form an effective part of the company management team.
  • Adopt a proactive attitude to talent acquisition, development and retention.
  • Champion the application and maintenance of all Quality System procedures across the business unit
  • Ensure all mechanical engineering staff are focused on a quality delivery, to time and cost requirements
  • Enhance the Wallace Whittle reputation by ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of a quality product and service in the discipline.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest possible standards of consultancy by including a market leading knowledge of Mechanical Building Services, including the relationship with Sustainability, Energy, Net Zero Carbon, Electrical Building Services and associated new developments in the property development and building services industry.
  • Contribute to ensuring operations are conducted in accordance with the relevant ISO and national legislation
  • To ensure contract compliance with the Integrated Management System, by supporting the administration of the Internal Audit programme, corrective action and customer feedback registers
  • Ensure documentation issued from Wallace Whittle in respect of a project has been technically evaluated in accordance with all relevant procedures.
  • Manage multiple projects, including organisation of trainee staff and project delivery to time and cost requirements.
  • To develop new business for Wallace Whittle by building relationships with existing and new clients and maintaining a reputation for quality and delivery and providing thought leadership in the discipline.
  • Undertake all other duties as may be required to assist in the fulfilment of the primary objectives of the Directors.
  • Undertake effective financial management and reporting, aligned with company systems and processes
  • Undertake all other duties as may be required to assist in the fulfilment of the primary growth objectives of the business

Education and Experience:

  • Preferably a Chartered Engineer with a minimum of Honours/Masters degree in an appropriate discipline.
  • Relevant accreditations, e.g. MCIBSE .
  • Experience of leadership/delivery of.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ industry experience, and preferably 5 years’ leadership experience
  • Experience of office and regional team management
  • A track record of work-winning and a strong network in key sectors such as commercial, healthcare, public, residential etc.

Specific skills, knowledge, competencies and training:

  • Confident engaging with senior design team personnel and clients, including Developers, Owners, Investors and Occupiers.
  • Ability to lead from the front and by example
  • Excellent people skills to ensure staff engagement
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Focus on quality and continuous improvement
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the UK as necessary
  • Excellent commercial acumen
  • Preferably, an existing network of customers and intermediaries in the UK
